Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
Psalm 56:8
You Have to Ask
Her eyes wide and body poised for flight, my cat Meep eyed the visitor before running to hide in an undisclosed location. It was her modus operandi. Even my best friend Lorie, her back-up caretaker for Meep’s 12 years of life, has barely caught a glimpse of Meep or been able to pet her. As a cat lover, it has always been a desire and a cause for disappointment: She wanted to pet Meep.
This past weekend I attended a conference and Lorie attended to the cats. Before I left, I told Meep she should let Lorie pet her because Lorie was always faithful to feed her and loved her despite her neurotic silliness. I even prayed a brief prayer that God would let her pet Meep at least once.
After 12 years of diligence, Lorie texted me the first night of the conference to say she had gotten to see Meep and pet her head. Of course, then she woke up and bolted, but not before God answered a little prayer.
Ask About Everything
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6 Share on X
When God says something, He means it. When he said don’t be anxious for anything just pray, He meant it. Nothing is too small for God not to notice or care about concerning His children. He keeps our tears in a bottle. Don’t keep prayers for particular times of day, but be always in prayer like an ongoing text message with your best friend. You can ask about anything and everything and know He’s listening.
Lately, I have been intentional in taking even the small things to God. I know that sometimes the answer will be no or not yet, but just leaving it in His hands removes anxiety… if I will just let go. He has surprised me by the little prayers He has answered with a yes, and often in greater abundance than I would ever have expected. He is a God of abundance, and a God of details. So ask!
Ask Knowing
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:7
We are His beloved children, so we can ask knowing that He has our best interest at heart. He will answer based on our best interest, sometimes yes and sometimes no, but He always answers. He also just wants to talk with us like he did with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Sometimes I just share what’s on my heart as I do with my friends and family. I want to hear His take on a situation or get a hug when I need comfort. Ask everything knowing we have a God who will hear us and answer.
Ask Believing
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
I John 5:15
We also need to ask believing that He can and will answer us. We just have to be willing to receive the answer even when it’s not what we want to hear. If we are following the will of God, He will do what we ask. Ask everything knowing that we have a God who will hear us and believing that He will do what we ask as long as we are abiding in His Will.
Nothing Is Too Small
What is on your heart today? Don’t worry about bothering Our Father about small things. He loves to hear from His children and help us along the path ahead. Open up the conversation by telling Him about the things you are thankful for and the things you admire in His creation. Tell Him about your day and ask Him for His input. Nothing is too small or too big for God. Don’t be afraid; He’s listening.

That “Meep”; she’s is so packed with personality, Albeit sometimes quirky ones. Sounds a lot like us, doesn’t it? So glad your friend Ms. Lorie finally got to meet the one she’s been caring for all those years. There’s nothing better than a “God smile” is there? What a great object lesson Ms. Linda. Nothing or no one is too insignificant for God.
Thanks so much for your kind words J.D.
