And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Hebrews 12:27
“‘Maybe Christmas,’ he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more!’”
How the Grinch Who Stole Christmas – Dr. Seuss
Has your world been shaken lately? If looking at social media posts and the headlines is any indication, then I think it is safe to say no one has been spared at least some kind of shaking. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, an unexpected job loss, or an actual shaking of nature, we all can feel a little shaken, confused, and sad. When these feelings come during the holidays, they can feel amplified. It can feel like nothing will be the same again, especially Christmas, but Christmas doesn’t depend on circumstances or feelings. The real Christmas never changes.
God Does Not Change
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
James 1:17
Christmas exists because God, out of His great love, gave us an immeasurable gift: His Son (John 3:16). Through this gift, we have forgiveness of sin, reconciliation with God, and a love beyond imagination. Christmas is God’s gift of love. His love is unchanging. Therefore, Christmas and true Christmas spirit are never lost.
The Promised Messiah Came
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Christmas is about believing. However, it is not about believing in Santa Claus. It is believing that Christ came as The Messiah to save us all and give us eternal life with him. When we accept him as Lord, then nothing can change our salvation or the promises that come with our inheritance. His is a gift that keeps giving everyday through His presence, His love, and His guidance. It lasts 365 days a year, not just Christmas Day.
Jesus Brings His Peace
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27
Christmas is about peace. It is not a worldly peace where wars cease among fighting nations. It is an internal peace that stills the war within. No matter what is going on around us, we can be at peace because we know God is in control and that He is with us. We have no need to fear.
In The Grinch by Dr. Seuss, Whoville’s Christmas is turned upside down. Yet, it is only when their emphasis on gifts and food is taken away that they see the true Christmas, which can’t be bought only received. It is the gift of love, a gift the world needs more than ever. So, if your world has been shaken, don’t worry about whether or not Christmas will look the same. Instead, focus on the gift of love given to you and share it with those around you. The best gifts in life truly are free: love, a hug, or even just a smile to a stranger. When we have the love of God, it is Christmas all the time.

I enjoyed your inspiring message, Linda. this month is so busy, but you’ve reminded us to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.
