There is power in words. What you say is what you get.
Zig Ziglar
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Proverbs 18:21
When you talk to others about your life, what do you say? Are you excited about potential opportunities, or do you mumble something about it will probably never happen? My last blog was on You Are What You Think and learning to realign your thoughts with God’s Word. The next step is to say what you think. In other words, say what God says not what the enemy has told you.
The Power of God’s Word
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 1:2-3
The world began with words, the words of God. God spoke creation into being. He said let there be light, and there was light. The Word of God is powerful even in our daily lives, and it is even more powerful when it is spoken aloud.
Why speak the Word of God and not just read it? The spoken word has power even on the human level. I am sure all of us still remember an instance where someone said something negative that we carried around in our hearts for years and possible still do. Words can hurt, but they also can heal.
The Power of the Spoken Word
To help rewrite the reel of negativity running in our minds, we have to write new lyrics. But, writing them is not enough. What good is a song if it is never sung? We have to say it out loud. I don’t mean go around giving a soliloquy every chance you get. I mean speak the word of God aloud in your quiet time. Pray the word of God back to Him in your prayer time. Then let that flow into your speaking.
- Instead of I can’t, say with God’s help I can.
- Instead of it will probably never happen, say if God wills it will happen, but if it doesn’t, God has something better for me.
- Instead of I’m fine, say I’m blessed.
In the book Fully Alive by Susie Larson (2018), the author says “renewing our mind is about remembering the right things because what we remember we become.” She goes on to say that we need to redirect patterns of thought that are negative and lead to sadness and depression. Romans 12:2 says that in order to be transformed, we have to renew our minds. We do that by getting out of our heads and into the Spirit.
The Power of Transformation
If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:11
When we start speaking the truth of God over our lives and the lives of those around us, we will start to see a transformation. Focusing on God, gives us a new perspective, an eternal one. Apply that to your daily life and you will see God at work. It will affect not only you, but also the ones around you.
Some will reject it, but others will welcome it. Our job is to do our part. God is in control of the results. So, even if it doesn’t seem to change the world, speaking the truth can change your perspective and bring you joy and peace even when the circumstances are not what you envisioned.
Say what you think when you think in the Spirit. Otherwise, it might be good for us to just keep quiet, which, in my case, might take an extra measure of grace. Thanks be to God for his mercy and grace and forgiveness. If you need help getting started, maybe a little mood music will help.

Amen Ms. Linda! What and how we say things, both about others and ourselves, truly does reveal what is foremost in our hearts. What a blessing it is to peer into yours young lady. When I do, I find God.
Thank you J.D. 🙂
