“The value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity.”
C. S. Lewis
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Matt. 13:35
How often do you hit the refresh button? How often do you restart your computer? I find it a little funny that computer programmers had to create automatic downloads that cause your computer to restart because people don’t get away from their computers long enough to turn them off. Computers require a restart on a regular basis because it performs functions that make it run more efficiently. However, sometimes just a hit of the refresh button on your browser is all that’s necessary. It resets and reloads a website, hopefully making it load faster and without glitches.
I often joke that I wish I had a refresh button for my brain, and then I found one. Well, it’s not an actual button, but it does the trick.
Foggy Clearing
We humans are creatures of habit, and in those habits we sometimes lose sight of the wonder all around us. I mean just yesterday I was driving my usual route to work and there was a lot of fog distorting the surroundings. Because my usual landmarks were foggy, I suddenly saw two houses, far off the road, that I had never noticed before. Sometimes fog can make things clearer.
This week I have heard several people remark about taking familiar things for granted. My Sunday school teacher mentioned Mt. Cheaha State Park. Many locals never visit it, but people come from long distances to see it. We are just so familiar with it we forget it is there.
Sean Dietrich posted a blog this week about beaches (Click here to read). He mentioned that he had returned to the beach after years of taking it for granted. He returned with a new perspective.
This week I have also been attending a Bible journaling conference. The speakers offer new ways to look at scripture using art. You don’t have to be an artist to do these activities. They just offer a new way of looking at scripture. Something we may be taking for granted.

New Morning, New Mercies
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
God’s mercies are new every morning, and every morning we can get a fresh dose to refresh our spirits and our minds so that we can appreciate what is right around us. Looking at the world through the lens of God’s mercy can help us appreciate what we have. It can also help us appreciate what others are going through as well so that we can extend the mercy given to us by God to those around us.
Sometimes it just takes a foggy morning to reset our eyes to the world around us.
Sometimes it just takes a foggy morning to reset our eyes to the world around us. May we stop for a moment and let God reset our spirits every morning so that we can be more patient and more loving in an increasingly angry world. Thank God for foggy mornings, but thank God even more for new mercies every morning.
Amen… Let our Savior help reset/refresh our souls daily my friend. What a great post! Thank you Ms. Linda.
Thank you, J. D.
