Qué Será Será – Whatever will be will be
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:11-13
Resigned
The word resign has two meanings: to give up an office or position or to submit/yield (dictionary.com). It also could mean to relinquish a right or to submit oneself without resistance. Whenever I have heard someone say “you just have to resign yourself to the fact…,” it was with a negative connotation. This week I heard it used in a positive way. We must resign ourselves to the Father’s will, knowing that He will choose the best outcome for us. Sometimes resigning ourselves to His will means resigning from jobs or positions in the church in order to follow God’s leading for a new role or position. What kind of peace is there in that? I am glad you asked.
Peace
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
When we yield everything to God, we receive a peace that passes worldly understanding. Philippians tells us not to worry about anything but to pray about everything. The peace comes not because our prayers change God; it comes from resigning ourselves to God’s will. It’s a matter of trusting God with the outcome, which is easier said than done in our earthly bodies.
Just yesterday I found myself becoming discouraged and worrying over potential outcomes for a situation, one over which I have absolutely no control. I stopped and just lifted a quick prayer. Then, I started scrolling through social media and a quote came up with the definition of Qué Será Será:
Whatever will be, will be. The future is not ours to see.
Don’t worry, if it’s supposed to happen, it will.
Talk about your quick answer to prayer. I instantly felt a peace and knew that God sent that to me at just the moment I needed to hear it. If it is God’s will and we are obedient to Him, then it will happen in His timing. When we yield to that, then we will receive a peace that is beyond earthly explanation. The peace comes from the Holy Spirit and from knowing the character of God.
Yielding
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Jeremiah 29:11
We can yield in confidence because we know God wants the best for us. He is not a God of transient character. He is unchanging. Scripture sometimes uses the word immutable, which I really like. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. Part of His character is a love for us that was worth sending His Son to save us. He is a Father who gives good gifts. Does that mean we will never have trouble? No, it just means that whatever comes, He will use it for our good and He will be with us and give us the strength to endure.
Qué Será Será
It all comes down to trusting God with whatever is in our hands and in our hearts. We can’t see the future, but God can, so it is best to leave matters in His capable hands. In the meantime, don’t worry, just pray. Whatever will be, will be. God is in control, so it is bound to be for the best. That is something I can resign myself to with confidence and rest knowing it will all work out.
